As it happens

Much of my work is planned. But some of the most interesting stuff isn’t. It can be luck – finding a perfect rainbow dead centre over St Paul’s. Or it can be found in other ways.

About 10.30 this morning, a tweet from Tamsin Omond: Lush are going to put on a shock stunt in their Regent St shop window. Simulated animal testing on a 23yr old model (human). It’s going to make compelling, and probably uncomfortable, viewing. And I’m five minutes away. On a Brompton, most places are five minutes away round here.

It’s being streamed in real-time, but I’ve found that the rapidly-published still image can grab attention on social media like almost nothing else.

I arrive just before 11.30. Things get going about 11.40. Five minutes in the shop, shooting, twenty editing on the pavement outside, twenty more uploading, tagging, tweeting, creating a gallery on my site. And writing this quick blog post. And off to the next job.

That’s real-time photography. And I bloody love it.
