As ever, Christmas Eve brings my first half of 2025’s photo highlights. They aren’t always my most popular, or even the most technically notable, but the ones that when I look back, meant the most.
A hugely creative portrait session with amazing Lisa, early in the year, exploring looks from Cold War spy thriller, to flamboyant colour. This one was in the ‘beam me up’ category.

Sometimes at the end of an event, the host asks for a few family photos. I love it when they channel a huge amount of joy towards the lens.

Events, as ever, made up a big part of the year. From the reunion of colleagues on the other side of the planet…

…to the fastest, most agile dogs in the world.

From dogs to monkeys, and a birthday treat inside the colobus enclosure at London Zoo. For some reason this image gave me an impression of a Tudor courtroom.

Two speakers who really impressed me this year: Hannah Fry and Paul Sinha. Hannah is always great with an audience; clear and authoritative. I’m not much of a TV person, so was unfamiliar with his work, but Paul’s stage presence was absolutely fantastic. Genuinely hilarious (I got the best reaction photos this year) and deeply knowledgeable. We got to have lunch together before the show; it was a real treat.

I’m lucky to have known Harry since we were both teenagers; a curious interweaving of educational and professional trajectories, and now regular encounters at events. One of the greatest characters in the tech-for-good world.

I did a Top Ten of the year on various socials. This one made it: Jonn in Hugo’s studio; a chance spot of a great composition in traditional religious style.

Always the people, the characters at events. From the enigmatic artist, to the juxtaposition of some fabulous expressions.

More portraits in April: Amaris was an exceptional model, and we created a dozen striking looks in well under an hour.

London Marathon: Hayley screaming her way through Mile 24, having spotted her family ahead in the crowd.

May Morning: up before dawn to see the Belles of London City morris dance the summer in.

More dogs in May: an extremely polite lady meeting and greeting…

…and their fundraiser run got off to a sticky start for one runner, dropping his phone in the first few steps.

What’s even cuter than a dog on a plane? A baby wolf on a plane, that’s what.

More characters lighting up the room: from the incredibly photogenic Dr Jesse, to Lord Kinnock, who has still very much got it at 83.

London Tech Week: busy as ever, with events across the country, and some big names, friends, and spectacular venues.

And then a stormy summer party, with a looming BT Tower under a lurid sky.
