Looking back at 2025 – part two

If you missed part one: it’s here. Into the summer, and a lovely assignment at an air show.

One of the client’s significant aircraft was being revealed with “a special escort”, according to the PA system. When I heard this, I was pretty sure what that might mean, grabbed the big gun long lens, and ran for a good position. Worth it.

And as the display closed, the departing team pierced a sky they’d painted in three colours. It became my favourite picture of the year.

On a hot summer holiday in Malaga I took one of only a handful of photos that fortnight (I have to have a break!). The ladies creating their own dance event behind the cathedral, complete with cans and music from a mobile phone, didn’t really give me any other option.

Wedding joy in Windsor! And a special request for a photo as the guards marched past. I couldn’t promise I’d get a perfect position, of course – we’d been busy for the previous hour in the ceremony – but it worked out fine in the end.

But the image that lingered even more for me was the quiet espresso martini by the river, just letting it all land.

The team at Forgather created memorable, beautiful events, as ever: with jump-scare moments…

…champagne celebrations…

…and epic sunsets at Boardwave Live in September.

It’s the “busy season” for events: whether that’s celebrity moments or AI experts doing their thing.

A really special weekend shoot in Lancashire, as the Ormskirk Pleasure Folk prepared for next year’s Calendar Girls production by…creating an actual calendar. I’ve known some of these women for 45 years!

More striking portraits in the autumn, from flamboyant events superstars by the river, to an extraordinary “Dog Man” moment.

The Grow London Summit is an annual celebration of, and inspiration for, businesses as they scale up. Sir Tim was on top form, and a surprise encounter with a stag and some jackdaws provided a great talking point on symbiosis.

And then a rapid change of scene to Barcelona for MozFest: technology and social impact meeting for a few days of magic in still-warm sunshine. I found a skyline to keep me happy…

And a “waiting in the wings” shot of main keynote speaker Chelsea Manning, moments before a stunning talk filled with activism and passion.

A magical moment at an end of year awards evening, as proud mum raced down to grab her daughter as the winner was announced.

And closing the year with a London night scene, from Sea Containers.
